Named in honor of the late Sakıp Sabancı, the Honorary Board of Trustees Chairman of Sabancı University, the Sakıp Sabancı Conference is held annually by Sabancı University in association with the Brookings Institution to discuss the latest developments in global politics and to draw attention to the role of Turkey in political developments on an international level.
Keynote speakers of previous conferences were Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, Former US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke, Former US Assistant Secretary of State and Ambassador Nicholas Burns, Chancellor Oxford University Chris Patten, and US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon.
About Javier Solana
Francisco Javier Solana de Madariaga, KOGF is a Spanish physicist and Socialist politician. After serving in the Spanish government under Felipe González (1982–1995) and Secretary General of NATO (1995–1999), he was appointed the European Union's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Secretary General of the Council of the European Union and Secretary-General of the Western European Union and held these posts from October 1999 until December 2009.
